Effective Feedback: Developing Leadership Skills Through Daily Communication
Summary:
Feedback is a potent communication skill. Leadership demands that this skill be used often and appropriately. By listening carefully to what people say, we can clarify our own thinking and direction; we can learn things about ourselves that we couldn't learn otherwise; and by using feedback to support and empower other people, we build trust and enhance our relationships with them.
Objectives:
- To strengthen a culture of LEARNING and enrich employee potential through improved feedback to and from management and peers.
- To embrace performance evaluation opportunities as not a solely annual event but regular occurrence that promotes informal feedback for continuous growth and development.
- To create caring environments that exhibit the courage it takes to administer feedback in healthy and productive ways, diminishing instances of office politics, surprises, lack of communication or miscommunication to occur.
- To broaden participants' perspectives by illustrating how scenarios viewed through different roles, lead to different reactions and solutions which create increased understanding and empathy.
