Creating a plan
"Those who make the worst of their time most complain of its shortness."
- La Bruyere
Career search can overwhelm even the most passionate people if they pursue opportunities haphazardly or without a plan. A plan that holds you accountable will help reduce the challenges posed by an increasingly nebulous marketplace. Structure is important because it allows you to put order and accountability into your career search process. Lastly, it is critical to monitor the results of your activities, actions and efforts.
Creating a productivity chart is useful for tracking the results of your efforts. Start by determining the amount of time you are willing to commit to your career search. Next, break your activities into meaningful time allocations.
By tracking your activities, you can analyze how you are spending your time and which strategies are producing the best results. While time appears infinite, it is also the very element that seems to slip away quickly. If you are spending a lot of time and not seeing results, it is possible that your time is not being used wisely.
